New Extreme protectors, which only offer the highest level of impact protection under the latest European standards, but have also been tested and CE approved for use at extreme temperatures of heat (+40C) and cold (-20C).

Level 2 of the newly revised CE standard EN1621-1:2012 was introduced because the need for different levels of protection was recognised.  In order to pass the new higher level, protectors must absorb twice as much energy from an impact as Level 1 protectors, transmitting no more than 20 kN of energy when struck with a force of 50 Joules, (compared to 35 kN for Level 1).  Or, to put it another way, to pass Level 1 protectors, protectors must absorb at least 15kN of energy, whereas for Level 2 they must absorb 30kN. As well as sailing through the impact testing, with a best result of 7.2kN, the Extreme protectors also passed two further optional impact tests at extreme temperatures.  Samples are conditioned for 24 hours at 40°C for the high temperature test (T+) and at -20°C for the low one (T-). They are then impact tested at these temperatures to ensure they still meet the same performance requirements. Passing both T+ and T- tests shows that Knox Extreme protectors are suitable for motorcycle touring or sport in hot climates as well as use for winter sports.
